In an historic moment, Joel Sebunjo shared the stage with renowned Senegalese artist Baaba Maal in Kampala on Friday, 27 January at the Serena Hotel. Baaba, also known as “Nightingale” because of his clear high-pitched voice has received worldwide acclaim for his acoustic guitar and as a percussion player. He began performing with the Dande Lenol group, and released his first album in 1989, tittled Djam Leelii. Baaba mainly uses traditional African instruments.
Menawhile, Joel is a Ugandan artist, multi instrumentalist and folk singer fusing west African music instruments like the Kora and “Talking Drum” with east Africa instruments. Joel, who plays with his Sundiata band, has shared the stage with the likes of Miriam Makeba, Oliver Mutukudzi and Saifa Keita among other celebrated African artists.
